We empower graduating high school students with visual impairments & blindness to succeed in higher education.
Highlights from VISF Scholarship Award Ceremony
Our Beginning
The Visually Impaired Scholarship Fund began in 1983, using a $150 surplus from the itinerant teachers’ social fund. That year, our initial three scholarships of $50 each were awarded!
For over 35 years we have provided scholarships to deserving blind and visually impaired LAUSD graduates to help ease the financial burden of college or trade school. Since our inception over 400 students have been named as award winners with grants ranging up to $2500!
Your contributions will help our current graduating seniors fulfill their educational dreams. Please join us in supporting the Visually Impaired Scholarship Fund.

Our Mission
The Visually Impaired Scholarship Fund is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization which provides scholarships to deserving visually impaired graduates of the Los Angeles Unified School District to help ease the financial burden of college or trade school.
Selection of student recipients within the Visually Impaired Program of LAUSD is made by a committee representing current and retired teachers and administrators.
Selection criteria may include academic achievement, academic potential, individual determination, and financial need.

Education is key to success. Having a college degree or a trade opens pathways for our students to live fulfilling lives. Statistics demonstrate how people with disabilities are often overlooked or not hired from a potential job. A step to overcoming these barriers to gainful employment and career opportunities is higher education.
